  • Overview

    Responsible for installation, configuration, and support of the physical network and security infrastructure, including effective management of network technical environment, firewall and security administration.  Responsible for the tactical planning, daily management, security, configuration changes, and disaster recovery of the network environment and its associated services.  The individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation and efficiencies within the environment.


    • Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems; designing and running system load/​stress testing; escalating application problems to vendor.
    • Plans, installs, maintains the network service infrastructure including IP Address Management, DNS, and DHCP.
    • Plans and designs the copper cabling plants and all associated physical support hardware at core and remote locations. Configures and operates complex test and repair equipment used in resolving problems related to cabling.
    • Coordinates the activities of a cabling vendor to install and maintain the copper cabling plant at core and remote locations.
    • Installs and maintains switches, bridges, radios and other active electronics comprising the local area networks at core and remote locations. Troubleshoots complex network problems and makes repairs as necessary.
    • Logical administration of the firewall rules and DMZ access logic. Acting as a troubleshooting resource with respect to inbound and outbound firewall traffic and security and intrusion detection related issues.
    • Installs and maintains network command & control systems including console switches, clocking and time synchronization systems, log servers, surveillance devices, network monitoring systems and traffic management devices.
    • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing and response.
    • Creates or modifies scripts/ programs that enhance or automate processes that support IT services.
    • Perform specified supplier management functions such as support and maintenance interaction notification processing (maintenance windows, outages, security patches).
    • Produce appropriate documentation for application deployment, configuration, and related processes.
    • Provide a point of escalation and support to IT Support Services Group.
    • Occasional local travel and participation in the on-call rotation and escalation for evenings, weekends and holidays.
    • Coordinates and supervises work performed by outside contractors involving assigned systems.
    • Available for work outside of normal business hours when required for pre-scheduled work or in the event of a system outage.
    • Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.


    • Bachelor’s degree with technical emphasis is required. Major course work in Computer Science or Related field preferred.
    • 3+ years’ experience in IT support field required with an emphasis on system or network administration preferred.
    • Working experience with Category (5,5e,6) UTP, coaxial, and outside plant required.
    • Knowledge of cabling standards including TIA568A/B, USOC, Ethernet over UTP.
    • Experience with Palo Alto Network Firewalls preferred.
    • Experience with Hewlett Packard network switches, routers and associated operating environments preferred.
    • Knowledge of network topologies and standards including Ethernet, TCP/IP, serial data, telephone systems, VoIP, 802.11 (a,b,g,n) wireless, 802.3 (at,af) POE systems and leased lines (T1,T3).
    • Experience utilizing hardware and software tools such as cable testers, packet analyzers, port scanners, standard TCP/IP diagnostic tools, etc. to resolve network issues.
    • Advanced networking TCP/IP knowledge is required.
    • General Unix knowledge and comfort with the Unix environment a plus.
    • Ability to write scripts to automate functions and extract reports preferred.
    • Ability to research solutions and determine the best solution set for the client environment.
    • Must be willing and able to learn new technologies as new products and services are adopted.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. This includes the ability to explain technical terminology to non-technical end users and create knowledge base documents.
    • Must be highly self motivated and directed. Must also possess a keen attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation are a must.
    • Should be able to work under pressure.
    • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required for projects or outages.
    • Must currently be local to the area.
