  • Overview

    The Production Database Engineer will have two primary responsibilities to execute each day. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

     

    Production Database Support: Serves as a diverse technical engineer on the Data and Reporting team – pushing Production Database and BI changes to production Linux and Windows database environments as needed and working with development and support team members as well as internal and external business clients.

    • Database SME: Serves as Database SME and Data/Reporting Team integration with Production Support/DevOps team to handle Database related issues and Tier 1/2 support for Production database environments
    • Database Monitoring Facilitation: Manage Database Monitoring systems including native alerting as well as external products such as Redgate, SQL Monitor, LogicMonitor, PagerDuty and other tools to ensure that visibility and response management is in place for tracking and proactive maintenance of production database systems.

     

    SQL Development: Demonstrated experience working with large MySQL/MariaDB and Microsoft SQL Server databases. This role is part of a cross functional team that will focus on building and maintaining our reporting infrastructure (OLAP) as well as our online transaction systems (OLTP). Duties include supporting ongoing infrastructure development, including T-SQL writing and stored procedure/job maintenance, as well as to provide database assistance and support to our Technology and Development teams. A commitment to collaborative problem solving, sound database/code design, and writing/editing quality code is essential.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage MySQL/MariaDB, MS SQL Server databases, SSRS/SSIS instances through multiple product lifecycle environments, from proof of concept to development to staging to mission-critical production systems.
    • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health, performance, and security to ensure high levels of performance and availability.
    • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
    • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
    • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
    • Assist application developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
    • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
    • Shift flexibility – primary shift will be Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Central (shift assigned as production needs dictate) with some weekdays working a more traditional 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM workday.
    • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
    • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years MS SQL Server Data Engine experience required

    • 3+ years MySQL/MariaDB database experience required

    • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools preferred

    • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models for both MS SQL Server and MySQL/MariaDB environments required

    • 3+ years of any of the following: Percona Xtraback, dbForgeStudio for MySQL, Starquest Data Replication and Redgate SQL Monitor Toolsets

    • 3+ Experience working with Windows server objects, including Active Directory and the Windows Security Model

    • 3+ years working with RedHat or Centos Linux command-line environments

    • Excellent written and verbal communication

    • Ability to organize and plan work independently

    • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment

    • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams

    • Use company JIRA (Project/Issue Tracking) to Track All Assignments & Tasks

    • MCTS, MCITP, MCSA and/or MCSE certifications a plus

    • Ability to pass strict background check for handling sensitive data
